From Charlsey Smith, Incoming
President of Christian Women’s Fellowship (2005-2006)
Shared at the General Meeting of the CWF in June, 2005
“ First of all, I want to thank you for asking me to be your President.
I feel honored and honestly, a little overwhelmed. I am not a speech
maker... please don’t forget that I make my living talking to 10 year
olds. So when I ramble on and on, please be patient with me. I will try to
be brief.
I have been a small part of CWF for many years. We have been blessed to
have had many strong, dedicated leaders. I can remember back to the
leadership of Verl Ann Murphy, and the huge bazaars where I learned to
make candy, arrange dried flowers, and the secret recipe to spice tea. We
have had the leadership of Anita Smith, Ann Howard, Pam Brison, June Bienz
and most recently Pat Zimmerman.
I would like to talk with you tonight about our changing population. I
would like you to think about not only our current CWF groups, but
something much larger... I want you to think about Women’s Ministries at
FCC. In order to grow our organization and strengthen it, we need to reach
beyond our groups. Our church is growing. Just look around you at any
given service or church sponsored activity, and you will find new faces.
It is a wonderful and exciting time in the life of FCC. However, our
groups have not yet shown evidence of the new growth, and it is not for
lack of trying. We make phone calls and personally invite. We have had
many opportunities for new ladies to join our groups. Honestly, I am
frustrated and I know that you are as well. We have discussed it at length
in my own small group, just like I know you have discussed it in the
Executive Committee meetings. The question remains, “How do we invite and
involve new members?” I want you to think outside of our groups. Think
Women’s Ministries. Are we reaching out to the ladies of our church... new
and old? Are we sharing God’s message with them? Are we providing an
opportunity for women of all ages to grow in their faith?”
